Independent Midwifery from
The Blooming Marvellous Midwife

Pregnancy is an incredibly special time and getting to know you, both as an individual and as a family, is a privilege few will ever experience. Both as part of the NHS and as a private midwife I’ve had the joy of working with hundreds of people, each with very different and (sometimes) complex needs, allowing me to nurture a safe and supportive environment for anyone asking me to be part of this life-enriching journey.

You will be listened to, empowered and cared for in every way – from your first antenatal check to the moment you welcome your baby in to the world and beyond. And choices will always be yours to make, with the service I provide tailored specifically to you. I’m a strong believer in continuity of care and take pride in ensuring you’re as comfortable as possible at every stage.

I specialise in home births (including water births), VBACs as well as antenatal and postnatal care, post-caesarean section care and complex birth planning. I’m also able to help those who have experienced traumatic births in the past.

About Me

Why choose an independent midwife?

The foundations of an independent midwife's care are the relationship they build with you and your family (including your existing children) and continuity. Pregnancy can be an incredibly stressful time and being able to see the same midwife for every appointment affords you the comfort of both familiarity and trust. You will be kept safe and supported, with your own needs and wishes valued over the enforcement of guidelines and what someone else thinks you should do.

Home birth - is it safe?

The short answer is yes, absolutely! Over the last 20 years, planned home births have become more and more popular. Stress is an often overlooked factor in pregnancy and remaining in a space you know, in which you feel completely relaxed, gives you and your baby the best chance of coping with the physical and emotional demands of giving birth. It also means your birthing partner can be with you throughout and you're less likely to require interventions such as forceps/ventouse (assisted birth) or an episiotomy. In some circumstances a home birth may not be the best option, but an independent midwife will always listen to what you want and is best-placed to provide the most relevant advice.
